The opening battle of the final Niagara campaign in the War of 1812 was fought on this site of 120 hectares (300 acres) now maintained by the Niagara Parks Commission. Reconstructed in the 1930s, Fort George historically served as the British Headquarters for southern Ontario in the War of 1812. From May to November each year, the Fort, comprised of eight restored buidlings, relives it's history through re-enactments and staff in period dress. Visit the home of Laura Secord, heroine of the War of 1812. This brave woman walked 32 km (20 miles) through enemy lines to warn the British forces of an impending attack.
